PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the central scheme that pays a direct benefit transfer to homeowners who install a grid-connected rooftop solar system. The subsidy is fixed by system size, not by what you pay your installer, so choosing quality hardware never costs you subsidy money.
For a 1 kW system the central assistance is ₹30,000, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. Most Indian homes with a monthly bill between ₹2,500 and ₹5,000 land on a 3 kW to 5 kW system, which means the full ₹78,000 applies.
You need proof of ownership or an NOC, a recent electricity bill in the applicant's name, an Aadhaar-linked bank account for the transfer, and a discom-empanelled vendor to file the installation report.
